Between two words
choose the quieter one.
Between word and silence
choose listening.
Between two books
choose the dustier one.
Between the earth and the sky
choose a bird.
Between two animals
choose the one who needs you more.
Between two children
choose both.
Between the lesser and the bigger evil
choose neither.
Between hope and despair
choose hope:
it will be harder to bear.
Euthyphro, Plato; The Trial and Death of Socrates, page 8
Socrates to Euthyphro: What proof have you that in the opinion of all the gods a servant who is guilty of murder and is put in chains by the master of the dead man, and dies because he is put in chains before his corrector can learn from the interpreters what the ought to do with him, and dies unjustly.... How would you show that all the gods absolutely agree in approving of his fact? Prove to me that, and I will applaud your wisdom as long as you live.
Scott Langley, along with 13 other activists were arrested for holding up a 30 foot
"STOP EXECUTIONS" banner on the steps of the Supreme Court in Washington DC
Scott Langley, in response with his arrest on January 17 :
"In the wake of Troy Davis's wrongful execution in Georgia this past September, I felt it was
necessary to bring the name of Troy Davis back to the U.S. Supreme Court so that Troy's name
would once again haunt the court that failed to stop the execution of an innocent man. I also
wanted the name Troy Davis to be a permanent alias on my criminal record as a reminder to
myself of what our justice system is capable of."
